Title I @ McMillan Magnet Center

Title I, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. 

  • Basic Grants 
  • Concentration Grants 
  • Targeted Grants 
  • Education Finance Incentive Grants (EFIG)

Title I - Parent Involvement Policy

Title I Parent Involvement Policy

 

McMillan intends to follow the parental policy guidelines in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 as listed below. The policy and the plan to implement it have been developed jointly and in agreement with parents from our building. It will be reviewed and updated annually with parent input. The policy will be distributed to all parents at the beginning of the year in a language they can understand.

 

  • Parents are involved in the planning, review and improvement of the Parent Involvement Policy and the Parent/Student/School Compact at our Annual Parent Meeting where they will be informed of the Building’s Title I participation.
  • The Parent Involvement Policy will be planned and reviewed at PTO Meetings, ParentTeacher Conferences, Open House-fall, and EXCELS Plus meetings.
  • Opportunities for parents to get involved in their child’s/children’s education will be held at different times of the day to allow for better participation. Some of these opportunities are:
• Back to School Night • Parent Coffee
• School Open House • Parent-Teacher Conferences
• Annual Parent Meeting • IEP Meetings
• SAT Meetings • PTO - Meetings & activities
• Project Nights • District activities

 

  • Title I funds may be used to pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with parent involvement activities, including transportation, childcare or home visit expenses to enable parents to participate in school related meetings and training sessions.
    • McMillan will utilize Title I funds for transportation, home visits, and childcare to enable parents to participation in meetings and activities.
       
  • Parents have the opportunity to be involved in the planning, review and improvement of the building’s Title I Schoolwide program through:
     
    • Climate Survey • Annual parent meeting
    • Title I Survey • EXCELS Plus Committee
    • PTO Meetings  
  • Parents will be provided, in a timely manner, information regarding curriculum, academic
    assessments used and proficiency levels through:

     
    • The student handbook • Newsletter
    • Parent-Teacher Conferences • Results of Standardized Tests
    • School/district website • Progress reports and report cards
    • School Messenger  

     

  • The school provides materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their child’s achievement through:
     
    • Take home activities in reading and math • District standards handouts
    • Project Nights • Open House
       

     

  • Opportunities for parents to get involved in their child’s/children’s education will be held at different times of the day to allow for better participation. Some of these opportunities are:
     
    • IEP Meetings • Parent-teacher Conferences
    • SAT Meetings • Bi-lingual Liaison
    • Open House • District translators
