Kudos! 2012-13

MathMcMillan Middle School in Omaha was the center of the math universe Thursday afternoon as some 200 sixth-graders from across the metro battled to win the annual math contest.

The students competed in teams of four, working together to solve difficult math problems. The test consisted of 60 questions and the teams had 40 minutes to complete them. To win the contest the students need teamwork and strategy, all designed to make them better students.

“That is the goal, for them to understand that they have strength in what they've learned so far, but they've got a ways to go,” said McMillan teacher Connie Colton.

The competition ended with a Quiz Bowl, designed to be fun for the students. Twenty-eight different schools sent teams to compete.

The winner of the written portion was Sunset Hills with Pine Creek finishing second and Papillion-La Vista Team 1 coming in third. Sunset Hills also came in first in the Quiz Bowl, followed by Pine Creek in second place and Springfield in third.
