Academic Pentathlon is an extracurricular activity that allows student to test their knowledge. Each year, a national topic is assigned, and students across the country work on studying the topic in five different content areas. This year, for example, our overall topic is World War I. We have been working hard to study Social Studies, Science, Math, Language and Literature, and Culture in regards to this time period. Along with our studies, we have read an assigned novel to provide us the opportunity to test our essay writing abilities. When second semester rolls around, we begin our competitions. So far, our team has placed first in the regional competition. Our state competition is at the end of March and the beginning of April. Only two teams from Nebraska will advance on to the national competition at the end of the school year.
Our team has been ranking regionally in all of the competitions, coming in first in the region for overall team score! We have also had individual team members rank regionally with their scores for each competition! We are busy preparing for the state competitions on March 25th and April 8th. After the state competition we will attend a Super Quiz at the University of Nebraska Omaha where we will race to answer questions against the other schools in the region. The Super Quiz is held in front of a live audience! Also, after the Super Quiz competition and results, we will find out which two teams are advancing to nationals. It should be an exciting year!
