Dr. Anderson's Expectations

7th and 8th graders will begin the year learning vocabulary words and working on their reading skills.  Dr. Anderson challenges her students to think outside the box and to push themselves farther than they previously thought they could go.  The focus for first semester is reciprocal teaching strategies such as predicting, clarifying, questioning, and summarizing as well as story elements like plot, character, setting, conflict, and theme.  The focus for second semester is literary elements such as idioms, irony, symbolism, oxymoron, and hyperbole as well as analyzing text structure and text features.  Students should always practice their vocabulary words, the Acuity at home, their Achieve 3000, and silent reading.
